|Robert Rijnders (Chairman)
A former graduate of the Maastricht hotel school and Cornell University, Robert Rijnders career has spanned some 30 years with what was Amari Hotels and Resorts, now known as the Onyx Hospitality Group. He is Senior Vice President Operations for the Onyx Group.
Elizabeth Roberts received her Ph.D. in Classical Rhetoric and Composition from Purdue University. Her dissertation was an ethnographic case study based on a three year study at Hospitality Valuations Services (HVS) in New York City. Her areas of teaching are multicultural management, managerial communication, and organisational behaviour. Most recently, she was Associate Professor and Associate Head of School at the School of Hospitality and Tourism at Auckland University of Technology. She was on the faculty at the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. for sixteen years. In that capacity, she served as Associate Dean at the Australian International Hotel School in Canberra and as Visiting Professor at IMHI/ESSEC Graduate School in Paris, France. She has published numerous articles in business communication and hospitality journals and has delivered over sixty presentations and papers in the U.S. and internationally. Elizabeth Roberts has also been actively involved as a consultant and trainer within the hospitality industry and has worked for international hotel chains throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, China, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
Cathy Hsu is a Professor and Associate Dean in the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Prior to joining PolyU in July 2001, she was teaching in the USA for 12 years in two different state universities. She has published numerous books and journal articles in the areas of hospitality marketing and gaming management. Professor Hsu is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Teaching in Travel and Tourism. She also serves on 8 journal editorial boards. She received the John Wiley & Sons Lifetime Research Achievement Award in 2009
Born in Indonesia, Marycke Jansen spent her childhood years there and in The Netherlands and completed her education in English Linguistics and Hotel Management in the United Kingdom. Professional engagements in the hotel industry started in family-owned hotels, continued in international hotel chains and took her from the United Kingdom to Belgium, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Zimbabwe.Upon returning to The Netherlands, Ms. Jansen developed and taught hotel management courses at TIO, a private educational institute in tourist and hotel management. Then followed lecturing hospitality management at Stenden University in Leeuwarden and directing students’ international internships at resorts and hotels worldwide while also enjoying the challenge of integrating foreign students into the academic environment of Stenden University. Later as a training consultant, Ms. Jansen trained Chinese managers of the Jin Jiang hotel chain at Les Roches/Jin Jiang International Hotel Management College in Shanghai and now consults to private enterprise and teaches computer courses for the elderly. Publications include research projects on yield management, Dutch books de Rooms Division Manager, de Front Office Manager, de Facility Manager in de Hotellerie and Inleiding Hotel Management and for the international market, Rooms Division Management was published in English in 2007.
Jonathan Wigley is CEO and owner of Absolute Hotel Services. Resident in Thailand, he has accumulated 24 years of experience in the hospitality industry, working for inter-national hotel chains from Hilton, Omni Group of Hotels, Delta Grand Pacific Hotel to the Landmark Hotel Group. His previous engagement as Managing Director for InVision Hospitality Co. Ltd. was to help setting up the company with strong foundation for future business vision. Prior to that he was Vice President of Operations for Minor International’s hotel division landed him in many parts of the world, including Vietnam, Bali and Dubai. Under this capacity, he was responsible for establishing brand standards and enhancing revenue growth. Prior to this engagement, Jonathan was stationed in Thailand and assumed a role of Group General Manager for the three franchised Marriott Resorts & Spas as well as Anantara Resorts & Spas.
Todor Radev is the Rector of the International University College in the Northeast part of Bulgaria, in the city of Dobrich. The College focuses on providing quality business and is an independent higher education private business school.
Soraya Bunnag is a Director at the Tawana Hotel Co, and Managing Director of the Kensington Trading Company. She holds a Masters degree in Hotel Management from Glion Institute of Education in Montreux, Switzerland, and heads up the Thailand alumni chapter of this institution in, in addition to her demanding career.
|Hans van den Born
Graduated from the HMSL in early 1994, Hans van den Born already had the intention of working abroad, preferably within Asia. Initially working for a few hotels in The Netherlands he soon switched to the airline industry with 10 years in operations and sales/marketing managerial positions at Air Malta and China Airlines. In 2006 Hans had the opportunity to be a pre-opening GM of a beach resort in Krabi and ever since fell in love with the destination Thailand. With the last 3 years working as General Director for a major Dutch tour operator to Asian destination, he is currently employed with the leading destination management company Diethelm Travel Group responsible for incoming tourism to Thailand.
Dr Wipon Sae-Aiew achieved his BS from Chulalongkorn University where he majored in statistics. This was followed by an MBA from the New Mexico State University, with an emphasis on business administration and finance. In addition, he holds a PhD from Texas A&M University, where he specialised in agricultural economics. His working career includes an initial period with the CP Group, where he held the post of Foreign Business Development Manager, a period in academics in the United States, and is currently is assistant to the Vice President of CPF. He has an excellent publication record in the field of economics. His hobbies are varied and include fine wines and dining.
